PTP and pacing checks

Check PTP lock and packet pacing from one Windows PC

Read PTP offset, path delay and ST 2059-2 TLVs with hardware timestamps. Measure every sender against ST 2110-21 Narrow, Narrow Linear and Wide.

Personal $49, Team $199 a month. No card needed for the trial.

Timing & sync

Timing, lip sync and both paths of ST 2022-7

ST 2110-21 sender timing

Each sender against Narrow, Narrow Linear and Wide, with Cinst, VRX and TRoffset. Know which receivers it suits before it reaches them.

RTP time against PTP

How far each stream sits from PTP time, in microseconds and lines. It exposes unlocked senders, the wrong clock and timestamps in the future.

Audio and video sync

The offset between sound and picture in milliseconds, against the EBU limits.

Flash and beep

Send the flash and beep pattern through a mixer, encoder or multiviewer. Measure lip sync through the gear itself.

ST 2022-7: both paths

The app finds the red and blue paths. It shows loss per path, packets the other path rescued, loss after merging and path skew against receiver classes A, B and C. See when protection covers a fault, and when a path is gone and the protection with it.

PTP & NMOS

PTP and NMOS, not bolted on

PTP monitor

Hardware timestamps show offset, path delay, Allan deviation and SMPTE ST 2059-2 TLVs. See if your grandmaster holds lock.

Built-in grandmaster

No PTP source on the bench? The toolkit becomes the grandmaster on the Intel X550 or NVIDIA ConnectX-6 Dx, with ST 2059-2 or AES67 profiles and BMCA. You always have a reference.

NMOS controller

IS-04 discovery through a registry or peer-to-peer mDNS. IS-05 connect and disconnect, and sender on/off. Same app as the analysis.

NMOS node and registry

The toolkit registers as its own NMOS node. It ships a local IS-04 registry (nmos-cpp) with a web UI for networks without one.

Diagnosis

The app tells you what's wrong

Most analyzers show hundreds of measurements and leave the conclusion to you. 2110 Toolkit checks the whole chain and tells you what is most likely wrong, why, and what to do.

The diagnosis checks the network card, multicast, PTP, NMOS, the stream description (SDP), loss and timing, and the picture itself. The root cause comes first. If the network card drops packets, that sits on top, with the loss and broken frames it causes below. Every finding has a plain-English explanation, the measurements behind it and suggested fixes.

Start it from an alarm, a stream or an NMOS receiver. Save the result as a report for a support ticket.

What's sent, not what's claimed

The app compares the sender's SDP with what arrives: resolution, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, channel count, channel order and packet time. SDP says 1080p50, the wire carries 1080i50? You see it at once.

Frame rate, resolution, black and freeze are measured on every video stream, not only the one you watch.

NMOS that matches reality

The app reads the NMOS registry and checks it against the network. It flags a sender that is off, a receiver tied to a sender that no longer exists, and a receiver on a different group than its sender.

Active tests

When measuring is not enough, the app tests, but only after you click. It sends a test stream through the network and checks it comes back. It rejoins a group and times the first packet. It compares loss with other streams from the same switch. It lists every PTP master it hears.

So you know if the fault is in the network, the source or the receiver.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask

Our PTP won't lock. Where do we start?
Check domain and profile on every device. Then find the current grandmaster and whether it changed recently. Offset that swings while path delay stays flat points at a switch that forwards PTP as normal traffic instead of acting as a boundary clock. Read offset over minutes, not as a snapshot.Read the PTP troubleshooting guide
The stream decodes fine but a receiver drops frames. Why?
Almost always packet pacing. ST 2110-21 governs when packets leave, not whether the picture is right. A bursty sender can look perfect on a tolerant receiver and overflow a strict one at the same average bitrate. A packet-interval histogram shows it. An average hides it.Read the ST 2110-21 pacing guide
Does it handle ST 2022-7?
Yes. The app finds the red and blue paths. It shows loss per path, packets the other path rescued, loss after merging and path skew against receiver classes A, B and C. You see when protection covers a fault, and when a path is gone and the protection with it.
What hardware do I need?
A Windows 10/11 PC with a network adapter. Supported cards: Intel X550 (10 GbE) and NVIDIA ConnectX-6 Dx (25 GbE). Full 4K uses DPDK on either card. A standard Windows NIC handles 1080p. DPDK is optional. It needs administrator rights, Windows test signing mode and Secure Boot off; the setup guide explains what that means for the machine. You need no waveform monitor, protocol analyzer or PTP grandmaster. The toolkit can be its own PTP grandmaster and NMOS registry when your network has none.Read the PC and network setup guide
