NMOS controller and registry

An NMOS IS-04 and IS-05 controller and registry on one Windows PC

Find senders and receivers through a registry or peer-to-peer mDNS. Connect them with IS-05. Check that the registry matches what is on the network.

Personal $49, Team $199 a month. No card needed for the trial.

2110 Toolkit NMOS controller listing the senders and IS-05 receivers found via the registry and mDNS, with connect, diagnose and disconnect for each receiver
  • IS-04 discovery: registry or mDNS
  • IS-05 connect and disconnect
  • Sender on and off
  • Local registry (nmos-cpp) with web UI
  • The toolkit as its own NMOS node
  • Registry checked against the network
PTP & NMOS

PTP and NMOS, not bolted on

PTP monitor

Hardware timestamps show offset, path delay, Allan deviation and SMPTE ST 2059-2 TLVs. See if your grandmaster holds lock.

Built-in grandmaster

No PTP source on the bench? The toolkit becomes the grandmaster on the Intel X550 or NVIDIA ConnectX-6 Dx, with ST 2059-2 or AES67 profiles and BMCA. You always have a reference.

NMOS controller

IS-04 discovery through a registry or peer-to-peer mDNS. IS-05 connect and disconnect, and sender on/off. Same app as the analysis.

NMOS node and registry

The toolkit registers as its own NMOS node. It ships a local IS-04 registry (nmos-cpp) with a web UI for networks without one.

Diagnosis

The app tells you what's wrong

Most analyzers show hundreds of measurements and leave the conclusion to you. 2110 Toolkit checks the whole chain and tells you what is most likely wrong, why, and what to do.

The diagnosis checks the network card, multicast, PTP, NMOS, the stream description (SDP), loss and timing, and the picture itself. The root cause comes first. If the network card drops packets, that sits on top, with the loss and broken frames it causes below. Every finding has a plain-English explanation, the measurements behind it and suggested fixes.

Start it from an alarm, a stream or an NMOS receiver. Save the result as a report for a support ticket.

What's sent, not what's claimed

The app compares the sender's SDP with what arrives: resolution, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, channel count, channel order and packet time. SDP says 1080p50, the wire carries 1080i50? You see it at once.

Frame rate, resolution, black and freeze are measured on every video stream, not only the one you watch.

NMOS that matches reality

The app reads the NMOS registry and checks it against the network. It flags a sender that is off, a receiver tied to a sender that no longer exists, and a receiver on a different group than its sender.

Active tests

When measuring is not enough, the app tests, but only after you click. It sends a test stream through the network and checks it comes back. It rejoins a group and times the first packet. It compares loss with other streams from the same switch. It lists every PTP master it hears.

So you know if the fault is in the network, the source or the receiver.

Test sender

A known-good sender for your NMOS controller

2110 Toolkit transmit view generating a color bars test pattern and audio test tone as an ST 2110 stream, PTP-aligned

Generate: send a reference

  • Test pattern, still image (PNG, JPEG or BMP), mp4 file (H.264 or H.265), raw video file or pcap replay
  • ST 2110-20 video in 720p, 1080p or 2160p at 25 to 60 Hz, with gapped pacing
  • ST 2110-30 test tone, 1 to 16 channels, PTP-aligned to your reference
  • Blackmagic IP10 as a test source
  • Moving box and frame counter to test a receiver's freeze and drop detection
  • Flash and beep to measure lip sync through a mixer, encoder or multiviewer
  • SDP generated for you. The sender shows up in NMOS for any controller
FAQ

Questions engineers ask

Does it support NMOS?
Yes. An IS-04/IS-05 controller with registry or peer-to-peer mDNS discovery, the toolkit's own NMOS node, and a local registry (nmos-cpp) with a web UI. You can run a full NMOS setup on one machine. The diagnosis also checks the registry against the network.Read the NMOS guide
Is it ready for production use?
Interoperability is confirmed against commercial ST 2110 hardware: NMOS registration, IS-05 connection management, reception, long-run PTP lock, and a third-party receiver that joins and decodes the toolkit's stream. It is a diagnostic and generation tool, not a certified conformance suite. Validate it against your own devices and formats.
Can it generate test signals, not just analyze?
Yes. Send a test pattern, still image, mp4 file, raw video file or pcap replay as ST 2110-20 video in 720p, 1080p or 2160p. Add an ST 2110-30 test tone, PTP-aligned. The SDP is generated and the sender shows up in NMOS. Blackmagic IP10 works as a test source too. Use it to test a receiver or downstream device on its own.
What hardware do I need?
A Windows 10/11 PC with a network adapter. Supported cards: Intel X550 (10 GbE) and NVIDIA ConnectX-6 Dx (25 GbE). Full 4K uses DPDK on either card. A standard Windows NIC handles 1080p. DPDK is optional. It needs administrator rights, Windows test signing mode and Secure Boot off; the setup guide explains what that means for the machine. You need no waveform monitor, protocol analyzer or PTP grandmaster. The toolkit can be its own PTP grandmaster and NMOS registry when your network has none.Read the PC and network setup guide
